Have you ever seen Windows XP fail to boot? A couple of days ago a client called to say his machine would not boot and gave and error message similar to the one below:
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\\WINDOWS\\SYSTEM32\\CONFIG\\SYSTEM
You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup
using the original Setup CD-ROM.
Select ‘R’ at the first screen to start repair.
Recovering from this error was really quite easy!
Step 1 – Boot Windows XP install disk and select “R” to use the Recovery Console (you need to know the administrator password).
Step 2 – Run chkdsk /R /P
Step 3 – Run FIXBOOT
Reboot your system, you should be back in business!
